Bloomington, IL –– June 20, 2011–– The Institute of Advanced Laser Dentistry (IALD) is proud to announce Kirk W. Noraian, DDS has been certified as an Instructor for the IALD.

The IALD works in association with Millennium Dental Technologies, manufacturer of the PerioLase® MVP-7™ digital dental laser designed specifically for the LANAP protocol. The PerioLase MVP-7 is the first and only periodontal protocol to receive FDA clearance for the LANAP protocol for treatment of gum disease. With his completion of Instructor Training, Kirk W. Noraian, DDS achieves Certified IALD Instructor status and is elected a Member in the IALD with eligibility to advance to Mastership and Diplomat status.

Dawn M. Bloore, DDS, Training Director for the IALD congratulates Dr. Noraian on his success. “We are excited and pleased to add Dr. Noraian to our elite roster of Certified IALD Instructors. His involvement in the American Society of Periodontology and Illinois Society of Periodontists underscores his commitment to the highest standard of care for his patients. He shares his passion for improving patient periodontal care in the best way possible, by teaching others how to help their patients.”
“My practice is dedicated to the incorporation of the most advanced treatment options for my patients that are safe and effective,” said Kirk W. Noraian, DDS, MS of Kirk W. Noraian Periodontics and Dental Implants located in central Illinois. “No other laser company offers the same level of quality training available through the IALD and Millennium. My achievement of Certified IALD Instructor status within the LANAP Protocol Training Continuum ensures that I am able to offer my patients consistent, predictable, reproducible clinical outcomes and the best possible care and treatment experience as well as train other clinicians to uphold the rigorous standards of the protocol.”

The LANAP Protocol Training Continuum™ is a year-long, comprehensive, live-patient training program that dentists undergo to ensure that they are safe and effective in the LANAP technique. The first three days of training, referred to as Laser BootCamp® (or Evolutions 1,2,3™), focus on safety and efficacy in the LANAP protocol. Only upon successful completion of Laser BootCamp are dentists granted a license to practice the LANAP protocol.

Evolution 4 of the LANAP Training Continuum takes place after six months of LANAP protocol experience and emphasizes advanced techniques and parameters.

Evolution 5 takes place at 12 months, helping dentists hone and refine their techniques. Dentists who complete Evolution 5 have achieved one of the highest levels of clinical, hands-on training in advanced laser dentistry available today. The Evolution 5 graduate has met the standards for LANAP Proficiency Certification in order to minimize risk and maximize successful results for patients who are treated with the LANAP protocol.

Only after a clinician using the LANAP protocol has completed all 5 evolutions of the LANAP Protocol Training Continuum is [he/she] eligible for instructor candidacy.

“I am amazed at the quality of training given by the IALD. It is unparalleled in dentistry.” Patrick McClure, president of Connexia group, a leading presentation skills coaching corporation. “To become a Certified IALD Instructor, the candidate must undergo a rigorous certification process, including clinical calibration content standardization, and presentation skills training. Not all candidates who begin the process can complete the requirements – only the truly exceptional become Certified Instructors.”

LANAP Instructors are trained to teach in methods specifically molded to support adult learning styles for impact and retention. The training spans a six to twelve month period, with intensive feedback and review. Progress is validated by multiple sources and requires the candidate to pass several tests demonstrating high level of understanding, exceptional presentation delivery, and expert level clinical skills.

The IALD is the only active laser training institute in the United States associated with a manufacturer that is recognized by the American Dental Association’s Continuing Education Program (ADA CERP) and AGD PACE national continuing education. To date, more than 1200 periodontists and general practitioners in the U.S. and Canada have completed this mandatory training and are treating more than 35,000 patients suffering from gum disease each year. Periodontists regenerating with the LANAP protocol represent 13% of the active members of the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP), signifying significant acceptance of the procedure within the specialist community.

Dr. Noraian joins an elite team of 25 Certified Instructors, comprised of 11 periodontists and 14 general dentists. Ten additional instructors are undergoing the certification process, including 7 perdiontists.

The American Dental Association (ADA) defines gum disease as an infection of the tissues that support the teeth. According to the U.S. Surgeon General, the condition affects 85 percent of American adults aged 18 and older. The LANAP protocol offers patients a less painful, patient-friendly, bone building alternative with fewer complications than conventional treatment for gum disease. A peer-reviewed study published in the prestigious International Journal of Periodontics & Restorative Dentistry demonstrates consistent positive results of new root coating (cementum) and new connective tissue attachment (collagen) suggesting that the best possible type of healing can be obtained with the LANAP protocol for the treatment of moderate to severe gum disease.

Patients interested in additional information on the LANAP protocol should visit: http://www.LANAP.com. Periodontal disease treatment is covered by most insurance carriers.

ABOUT THE INSTITUTE FOR ADVANCED LASER DENTISTRY (IALD): The Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry is a non-profit educational and research center dedicated to providing evidence-based clinical training in advanced laser dentistry therapies. Formed in 1999 by dentists Robert H. Gregg II and Delwin K. McCarthy, the IALD is both ADA CERP and AGD PACE accredited, and is nationally recognized for its continuing education (CE) programs. With more than 20 certified instructors who train dental professionals in laser dentistry techniques including the LANAP® protocol, the IALD aims to reach more underserved patients with gum disease who have avoided therapy out of fear. To that end, the organization provides free treatment to qualified patients who can benefit from the no-cut, no-sew, no-fear LANAP® protocol—providing about $750,000 in free dental services each year. The IALD’s ultimate goal is for the percentage of patients seeking treatment for periodontitis to reach the percentage of patients seeking general dental care.
