KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Bill Driscoll

Navy Ace & TOPGUN Instructor

Soaring to new heights, the 8th Annual LANAP Study Club will feature Keynote Speaker Bill Driscoll – the first all-missile U.S. NAVY Ace with a total of five MIG kills during the Vietnam War and an instructor at the U.S. Naval Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN)!

On May 10, 1972, William “Willy” Driscoll, and his pilot, Randy “Duke” Cunningham, would become the first aces of the Vietnam War. Flying the McDonnell Douglas F-4J Phantom off the USS Constellation, they validated the realistic fighter training concept employed by the Navy Fighter Weapons School, “Top Gun.” His unparalleled knowledge of air combat maneuvers led to five aerial victories, including one against North Vietnam’s top ace, Colonel Toon. Bill Driscoll is a member of the Navy’s first and only team of jet missile aces with the shoot-down of enemy jet fighters in air combat.

Bill Driscoll is one of the most highest decorated living Naval Flight Officers, a TOPGUN Instructor for four years, and has flown in more than 5,200 jet dogfights over the past 43 years. He has been assigned for the past 27 years as an air combat consultant at TOPGUN and has spoken to all 107 graduating classes with:
∗ 170 combat missions,
∗ 500 aircraft carrier landings and
∗ 3,300 hours of jet fighter flight time.

For his extraordinary achievements, Driscoll was awarded the following honors:
∗ The Navy Cross
∗ The Purple Heart
∗ 2 Silver Stars
∗ Nomination for the Medal-of-Honor
