Justin J. Villanueva, DMD, MSD, DHL, is a board-certified periodontist and dental implant surgeon with a passion for advanced periodontal care, implant dentistry, and education. Growing up in a dental family in Chicago’s western suburbs, Dr. Villanueva developed an early interest in dentistry. However, following the events of September 11, 2001, he put his college education on hold to enlist in the U.S. Army. After three years of service, he was honorably medically discharged and returned to pursue his career in dentistry.
Before attending dental school, Dr. Villanueva spent approximately eight years working in the dental field, gaining valuable experience that would help shape his future career. He later attended Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine in Downers Grove, Illinois, and completed his periodontics residency at Indiana University in Indianapolis.
Throughout his career, Dr. Villanueva has had the opportunity to travel and collaborate with internationally renowned dental implant surgeons and restorative specialists from Switzerland, Australia, Japan, Brazil, and the United States. These experiences have strengthened his expertise in periodontics and implant dentistry and reinforced his commitment to advancing patient care through education and evidence-based clinical techniques.
Dr. Villanueva is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and a Fellow and Certified Instructor of the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry. He also serves as adjunct clinical faculty in the Department of Periodontology at the Indiana University School of Dentistry.
His professional affiliations include the American Dental Association, Indiana Dental Association, Indiana Society of Periodontists, American Academy of Periodontology, Midwest Society of Periodontology, International Team for Implantology, Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry, and Spear Study Club.
